- Layla El grew up in London, England. She is of Spanish and Moroccan descent. She emigrated to Miami, Florida, while working as a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines, and later became a dancer for the Miami Heat basketball team and singer John Legend.
- In 2006 she participated in
WWE’s Diva Search and was named the winner, earning a contract with the company and debuting on the Smackdown brand.
- In early 2007 she was drafted to the ECW brand and formed the Extreme Exposé alongside Brooke and Kelly Kelly. The trio performed a weekly dance segment choreographed by Layla herself. The Exposé broke up in November when Brooke was released and Kelly and Layla began feuding. Layla was moved to Raw in 2008, briefly becoming the manager of Jamie Noble before turning heel and aligning herself with William Regal.
- Late 2009 saw her form her most notable alliance, joining forces with Michelle McCool as Team Lay-Cool. The mean-spirited duo had a long-running feud with Mickie James across late 2009 and early 2010 over the Women’s championship, and later acquired Vickie Guerrero as a manager.
- In May 2010, LayCool defeated Women’s champion Beth Phoenix in a handicap title match on Raw, declaring themselves co-champions. As Layla secured the deciding pinfall, the reign is officially attributed to her rather than McCool. When informed there could only be one champion, Lay-Cool famously cut the belt in two and each carried their half to the ring. When McCool defeated Melina to merge the Women’s belt with the Divas championship later in the year, Lay-Cool proclaimed themselves co-holders of the Divas belt, though only McCool is officially recognised as being champion during this reign.
- Lay-Cool went their separate ways in April 2011, culminating in a No Disqualification match between the two at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, in which Layla was victorious. However, she suffered a legitimate knee injury during the match and was written off television shortly afterwards to undergo surgery.
-She made a surprise return at the following year’s Extreme Rules event, defeating Nikki Bella to capture the Divas title outright for the first time, and held it for five months.
-After another extended absence in late 2013 due to undisclosed personal issues, Layla returned in March 2014 and became the valet, dance partner and on-screen love interest of Fandango, much to the chagrin of his previous valet and girlfriend Summer Rae. The two feuded and competed for Fandango’s affections between May and July. However, the final twist saw Layla and Summer attack Fandango for toying with them and form an alliance of their own, known as the Slayers.
