- Eric Thompson trained in Calgary under Bruce Hart, Ross Hart and Tokyo Joe. He made his wrestling debut in 1999, and wrestled for the Hart family’s revived Stampede Wrestling promotion for several years. Originally known as Bishop, he soon changed his name to Apocalypse, a name he would use until leaving the company 2008.
- In Stampede he held the Stampede North American Heavyweight Title twice, and the Stampede International Tag Team Titles three times (once with Harry Smith and twice with Dave Swift). Early in his career he was also a regular for Derby City Wrestling, and toured Japan in November 2003 as The Shadow.
- In 2008 he relocated to the United States and began competing for Ohio Valley Wrestling as Erik Doom, before briefly reverting to Apocalypse and then APOC. In his two years with the company, APOC was a two-time Heavyweight champion and a one-time Tag Team champion with Vaughn Lilas.
- He returned to Canada in 2010 and primarily competed for Prairie Wrestling Alliance and WFX, holding the PWA Heavyweight and Mayhem titles. In February 2011, he signed a developmental contract with WWE.
- After debuting in WWE’s Florida Championship Wrestling developmental territory in May, he was given the ring name Rick Victor and the following year began a feud with Seth Rollins, defeating him for the FCW Florida Heavyweight Title in June 2012. Immediately after his victory, he was challenged and defeated by Bo Dallas, only for Victor to regain the title a month later. He also held the FCW Florida Tag Team Titles with Brad Maddox.
- When FCW was re-branded as NXT in mid-2012, Victor was used primarily as enhancement talent. In September 2013, after a long absence from television, he joined Conor O'Brian as his new partner in the occult and mysterious The Ascension [2] team. In September they defeated Adrian Neville and Corey Graves to capture the NXT Tag Team Titles. A few months later, the pair became known simply as ’Konnor’ and ’Viktor.’
- The Ascension held the titles a record 364 days, eventually losing them to the Lucha Dragons at the Takeover: Fatal 4-Way event in September 2014. They then began a feud with the debuting Hideo Itami and Finn Bálor, losing to them at Takeover: REvolution in December.
- In the final week of 2014, the Ascension made their debut on the main roster, now sporting facepaint and cutting loud, bombastic promos in the style of 1980s tag teams such as the Road Warriors and Demolition, in which they proclaimed themselves to be better than many great teams of the past. This led to a match against the New Age Outlaws at the Royal Rumble in January 2015, where the Ascension were victorious. In September, Konnor and Viktor formed an alliance with Stardust as the Cosmic Wasteland.
