Statistics and information about the 437 matches fought by Johnny Moochy in our events database
- Born John David Mucciacciaro in Wisconsin where he went to Amery High School.
- Joined the Marines on December 9, 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor and achived the rank of Private First Class.
- Was taken prisoner of war and held at the Osaka Main Camp Chikko Osaka in Japan after being captured at Guam. An article by Ned Brown (NEA) that ran in papers across the country in November 1945 called him “Moochie the Magnificent,” explaining that he was the first POW in Japan and the last one out.
- In the camp he worked as slave labor loading ships with war materials on ships. As they were fed a meager diet of one small bowl of rice a day, Johnny’s weight went from reportedly 235 lbs. to 145 lbs. He developed a reputation among the POWs as pretty good thief, stealing food so the all could survive. Another story has him starting fights with other POWs as a distraction of the guards so others could steal food. He received severe beatings for most of his actions. There is a story of him fighting the Japanese guards and knocking out 18 before the other POWs pulled him away.
- After being released, he was somewhat of a minor celebrity for the story of knocking out 18 Japanese guards. He was sought after by boxing promoters to go into professional boxing. His father, John Mucciacciaro, was said to have fought under the name “Jack Moochie” in the 1920s.
-
Paul Bowser reportedly coaxed him into the wrestling business instead.
- He was a minor attraction in wrestling in the upper mid-west and Canada from 1946 – 1952.
- In 1953 he was black listed by the National Wrestling Association for wrestling in California for a non NWA promoter.
- He then went to Australia where he was quite a headliner as a “dandy type bad boy” wrestler.
- Johnny Moochi was killed in a car accident in Southern California in 1960.
